The Bottom Line

Al Aumdah is an Egyptian restaurant in Hor Al Anz where the food is the main draw. You can come for breakfast, order a falafel sandwich or koshary, or try more substantial dishes such as Alexandrian liver and hawawshi. Reviews also mention fatayer, pies and takeaway-friendly meals.

Falafel is the restaurant’s most discussed item, though experiences vary. One reviewer describes a crisp, green, herb-filled sandwich with tahini, while another found the falafel dry and bland. The Alexandrian liver receives a more vivid recommendation, with garlic, cumin, chilli and citrus, and the breakfast plate is notably generous: one intended for one person reportedly fed two diners.

This is a casual, practical stop rather than a polished dine-in setting. Seating is limited; one review says there is no indoor seating, while evening outdoor dining and a small family room are mentioned elsewhere. The adjoining bakery may also provide fresher khubz bread if you ask.

Service and timing are the main cautions. Customers report waits ranging from 40 minutes to two hours, inattentive staff and occasional communication difficulties because little English is spoken. Check preparation times and prices before ordering, and consider off-peak takeaway if you are in a hurry.
