Didn't give it 5 stars only as I felt that the platters should have had a few more vegetables on them - it was very meat heavy. Also because it was very expensive - 370 AED for 2 x lamb and marrow platters was quite pricey. It was absolutely superb food though and high recommend it.”

Food 3

  1. Bbq mix food Net −1
“- BBQ mix food taste is over fatty , barely you can taste the meat taste , دهن pure with little meat ( in the video) ☹️”
  2. Lamb chops with bone marrow Net −1
“We were a party of 7 friends, we ordered lamb chops with bone marrow, meat maqlooba and lamb shoulder with bone marrow. I think the popularity of the restaurant can be attributed to social media craze and bone marrow obsession. The food in general was mostly a miss and just 1 hit. The lamb chops were so dry it was disappointing. You could see the individual fibres of the meat and it was completely grey inside. The bone marrow was nice, but the garlic-herb situation overpowered the marrow taste. Bone marrow is very rich in texture, but the flavour itself is extremely mild, so putting so much garlic and herbs was not the right decision to me.”
  3. Ramen with marrow Net −1
“I tried something new in the menu, Ramen with marrow, as an Asian food lover, it’s not the best thing I’ve ever tried! But food is fresh, the atmosphere: the noise from the customers made me nervous as there is no spaces between the tables.”

The Bottom Line

Al Maskoof Al Iraqi Restaurant in Al Safa 2 - AL SAFA is a popular choice for traditional Iraqi food, particularly if you want to try bone marrow, maskoof fish, dolma or maqlooba. Reviews also mention lamb with rice, short ribs, kebabs and wagyu steak sandwiches, so the menu extends well beyond one signature dish. The food is often described as rich, authentic and carefully cooked.

Bone marrow is the headline order for many diners, while maskoof-style fish, tender grilled meats and well-seasoned dolma receive strong praise. Complimentary lentil soup, bread, pickles or tea are recurring touches, although one reviewer found the marrow heavy and greasy. Expect a buzzy rather than quiet setting.

The restaurant can be small, loud and tightly packed, with queues and delayed seating or service reported on busy visits. Parking around the area is difficult, so valet is useful where available. Check the menu or Instagram beforehand because some diners found the menu hard to read and lacking photos.

Prices are on the premium side, and reviews disagree on portion value: some call servings generous, while others felt the quantity did not match the cost. Booking ahead and avoiding peak weekend periods should make the visit easier.
