“We visited this home-grown brand from Tamil Nadu in India and we had an awesome Thalappakatti chicken biriyani and mutton biriyani from this Dindigul Thalappakatti Restaurant in Karama. The history: The hotel roots can be traced all the way back to 1957. Its founder Mr. Nagasamy Naidu wore a turban Thalapa (a traditional head dress) which would eventually became the name of his restaurants. The order: Thalappakatti chicken 65 biriyani and mutton biriyani. Black pepper chicken. Aatukal soup. & Lime soda. Biriyani was prepared with short grain seeraga samba rice, blended with special spices. The rice was cooked well with all the aroma of the spices and tender goat & chicken. The Bottom Line

Dindigul Thalappakatti in Al Karama is a Tamil Nadu-style restaurant built around biryani, especially mutton biryani. Customers describe it as fragrant, richly spiced and close to the flavours they remember from India. The biryani is served with curry gravy at the side, and Chicken 65 biryani is another distinctive order.

For a broader meal, reviews also mention Pallipalayam chicken, mutton nalli curry and nool parotta. Service can be a genuine strength. Diners have described quick, attentive staff, polite explanations of the dishes and helpful table service, while the vintage Tamil music gives the dining room a warm, nostalgic character.

It suits family meals and larger groups, and one review places it about 1km from ADCB Metro Station. There are important caveats. Recent reviews repeatedly mention dishes being unavailable, early closures and food running out after outside orders, so checking before travelling is sensible.

Weekend and holiday crowds can also mean waiting. Prices divide opinion: some call them reasonable, while others report small portions, including a biryani with one chicken leg. Spice can run high, and cleanliness concerns have included dirty toilets and floors.

Parking is easier when a space is available, but busy periods may require using the lot behind the restaurant.
