What to Avoid (12)

Food 12

  1. Emerald chicken charcoal Net −1
“I ordered same dish twice I was happy on my first visit but very disappointed on my second I was served uncooked chicken charcoal and the rice was changed to plain white rice on my previous visit I was given a yellow rice which tasted good”
  2. Beef dhumbiriyani Net −1
“I asked them beef dhumbiriyani is there and they said yes, i ordered beef dhumbiriyani . But the thing is it’s not a dhumbiriyani. It’s a normal biriyani rice with some beef masala. The taste is not good…just a ok biriyani. I never recommend anyone to try beef dhumbiriyani from EMERALD”
  3. Chicken shawarma Net −1
“Also tried their chicken shawarma & oman chips-egg paratha roll. Both were a disaster and would NOT recommend at all (you can still try it if you want but it’s not really worth it).”
  4. Fire grilled chicken shwaya Net −1
“Don't ever order grilled chicken or seafood or fire grilled chicken shwaya from there...only good is chicken biriyani .”
  5. Fish pollichathu Net −1
“I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. I ordered Fish Pollichathu, expecting the traditional Kerala-style preparation wrapped in banana leaf with authentic spices. Instead, I was served a piece of fried fish with onion masala simply dumped on top — not even close to what was advertised. The quality of the dish was poor — the fish was dry, the masala lacked depth of flavor, and it felt like a lazy attempt to pass off something else as Pollichathu. For the price, I expected much better in both authenticity and taste.”
  6. Grill chicken Net −1
“We ordered grill chicken.. server told me 20 minutes it will take to serve. .I agree and order for grill chicken, but they serve in 10 minutes ,the chicken was half cooked, they serve hummus and garlic and chutney all in one plate .. I ask for hot water.. they didn't even serve cold water.. price of chicken was cheap”
  7. Mutton tawa pulao Net −1
“I ordered Mutton Tawa pulao and smell of the mutton was just rubbish. The motton was rotten and still they served me. Pathetic food, baladia must inspect there food quality as they are playing with consumers health as they are serving unhealthy/expired food.”
  8. Oman chips-egg paratha roll Net −1
“Also tried their chicken shawarma & oman chips-egg paratha roll. Both were a disaster and would NOT recommend at all (you can still try it if you want but it’s not really worth it).”
  9. Onasadya Net −1
“Bad experience, we buy 3 onasadya , one for 35 dirham , but it's like a normal motta meal, we didn't get any expected quality or quantity of their price. Each curry's quantity is like a single small spoon. We didn't expect this from emerald. Not recommended”
  10. Parathas Net −1
“The food is ok,service is very slow.Bhindi masala was good,Parathas were served cold inspite of telling twice.”
  11. Shwrmna Net −1
“Very cheap quality of food , I ordered shwrmna 1 hour they awaited after that unexpectable taste and quality of shwrma they delivered”
  12. Wrap Net −1
“On 17.04.2025 we ordered shawarma from Emarald Al Qouz branch. The wrap was falling apart in our hands, the filling tasted off—like something that had been sitting out way past its time—and overall, it felt like we were eating leftovers from a kitchen that had already shut down for the day. When we called to raise a genuine concern, the response we got was almost insulting: ‘The stock got over. Nobody else complained.’ As if that somehow made it acceptable. The lack of accountability and basic quality was disappointing, to say the least. We didn’t just lose money—we lost trust.””

The Bottom Line

Emerald Restaurant in Al Quoz leans towards Kerala, South Indian and Malabari food. You can come for a full meal such as chicken biryani, mutton pothi biryani, hamour grilled rice or Kozhi Nirachath, or keep it casual with chai and snacks. The grilled chicken, avocado juice and some grilled meat dishes have drawn particularly positive comments.

The evening-snack side may be the safer bet for a quick stop. Indian tea with vegetable samosa and fries was well received, and one reviewer called the kallummakkaya a decent Dubai find. There is upstairs and outdoor seating, plus RTA parking in front.

A Sunday unlimited breakfast buffet was also mentioned as affordable, though the review does not establish whether it is still running. Service is the main uncertainty. Multiple diners describe long waits, including more than 20 minutes for biryani and 25 minutes for mushroom rice; delivery complaints range from over 40 minutes to more than two hours.

Charcoal chicken reviews are mixed too, with some calling it juicy and others reporting raw meat, bitter burns or repeated undercooking. Prices are often described as economical, but some dishes and portions have felt expensive for what arrived. Check timings and availability before making a late-night or delivery order.
