  4. Ghee masala dosa Net +1
“Mami's Ilam restaurant offers a pleasant dining experience with a neutral ambiance and above-average food quality. During our visit, we tried the ghee masala dosa and filter coffee, both of which offered unique flavors. The dosa was generously filled and had a distinct taste owing to the ghee, while the filter coffee was rich and aromatic. While the overall experience was enjoyable and the food quality commendable, the restaurant's atmosphere and service could be improved to elevate the dining experience further.”
  5. Ghee rava masala dosa Net +1

  11. Onam sadya Net +1
“We had a wonderful Onam Sadya at Maami's Illam Pure Veg Restaurant today. The food was delicious and the overall experience was excellent.”
  12. Onion dosa Net +1
“I ordered an onion dosa, and let me tell you — the onions were chopped so perfectly, so precisely, so mathematically accurate… I started questioning if the chef had a PhD in Advanced Onion Sciences. Every single piece of onion was IDENTICAL. Same size. Same shape. Same vibe. I’m convinced they’re not chopping onions — they’re manufacturing them in a secret lab under the restaurant. At one point I stopped eating and just stared at the dosa like: “Did I come here for food… or a geometry lesson?” Even the menu proves it — they clearly have a deep emotional relationship with onions. And the taste? Honestly… pretty good (can’t lie 😭). But I was too distracted admiring the onions to focus. Final verdict: If you want delicious South Indian food, sure, come here. But if you want to witness onions chopped with surgical precision that could rival NASA engineers, this place is a MUST. ⭐ 5/5 for onions ⭐ 4/5 for making me feel intellectually inferior to vegetables 😭”
  13. Onion oothappam Net +1
“Mainly South Indian specialities - variety of dosa, idli sambar, onion oothappam, special coffee, thali etc. Like the food. Service is good, ambience is ok. Seating arrangement is little congested.”

The Bottom Line

Mamis Illam is a pure vegetarian South Indian restaurant in Discovery Gardens, with the strongest case built around dosas, thalis and traditional accompaniments. The Ghee Rava Masala Dosa is praised for balancing crispness and softness, while the idli, appam, parotta sets and Sunday sadhya give regulars plenty beyond breakfast. Filter coffee is a recurring favourite, and iced filter coffee gets an especially enthusiastic mention.

The food leans homestyle rather than experimental. Diners mention Tamil/Kerala-style sambar, fresh chutney, rasam and a thali that tastes like home cooking. Kanji with payar, chammanthi, injipuli, achar and pappadam is a less usual find.

Office lunches and bulk variety-rice orders have also been reported as fresh, well portioned and delivered on time. Service is often described as warm and responsive, but the experience is not perfectly consistent. Several reviews report missed items, partial orders or waits of 20 minutes followed by another 25-minute delay.

Breakfast and Fridays can be crowded, and nearby parking may take patience. Prices are generally considered fair for portions, though one recent review questioned the value and mentioned Mini Tiffin pricing differences. A wheelchair-accessible entrance is reported, while washroom upkeep has drawn criticism.
