“I was genuinely excited to try Maxzi in Al Quoz after hearing whispers,rumours,legends about their double bacon cheeseburger. I work nearby and only get a 30 minute lunch break, speed is survival. I walked in, ordered a takeaway burger from the lady at the counter, no fries, no drink, no extras, just the burger. Minimalist. Focused. Efficient. Or so I thought. She told me to take a seat while I waited. 15 minutes pass. Okay, fine. Burgers take time. Cows were involved. 20 minutes pass. Now I’m starting to mentally cancel work. I go back to the counter to check, and, how shall I put this delicately, it becomes extremely clear my order had fallen into a black hole somewhere between the till and the kitchen. Only after I reminded them did the burger suddenly become… real. 25 MINUTES for a single takeaway burger. At this point my lunch break is dead, buried, and being memorialised by my coworkers. I grab the bag and sprint back to work, planning to eat it while walking like a raccoon escaping a crime scene. Then I open it. Friends. This burger was dripping in oil. Not glistening. Not juicy. Dripping. Like it had just returned from a deep-sea diving expedition in grease. The bun? Soggy. The wrapper? Transparent. My hands? Lubricated. For something they apparently advertise and preach as quality, this was aggressively… average. Not terrible enough to be iconic. Not good enough to forgive. Just a greasy reminder that my lunch break had been sacrificed for nothing.”
