The Bottom Line

Nightjar City Walk is a coffee-led contemporary eatery in Al Wasl where you can settle in for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or simply stop for a well-made drink. Reviews are strongest on the cortado, nitro coffee and Shakerato, while the crème brûlée pancakes and avocado toast give the food menu a clear breakfast draw. The room is a big part of the appeal.

Diners describe a modern-meets-retro design, chill music and a cosy atmosphere that works for catching up, family meals or a laptop session. Bar seating has sockets and plugs, and one reviewer found plenty of seating, Wi-Fi and easy-to-find City Walk parking, although parking validation is required. The long tables may not suit everyone, particularly if comfort is a priority.

There are a few reasons to keep expectations measured. The Basque cheesecake received a lukewarm review, and the Spanish latte was criticised for an off coffee-to-milk ratio. More importantly, two diners had a poor experience with the salt beef sandwich, describing the meat as smelly, chewy or rubbery.

Delivery reliability also drew one serious complaint, while a table reported trouble getting the bill to load through QR payment. For a first visit, the cortado or nitro coffee and a better-liked breakfast dish are safer starting points.
