The Bottom Line

Afghan Palace Restaurant in Al Nahda 1 is a traditional Afghan dining spot with a menu that reviewers return to for Kabuli Pulao, kebabs and dishes such as bolani, ashak and Shingwari Kadai. Kabuli Pulao is especially divisive but often praised: one diner called the rice extremely flavourful, while another found the rice cold and the meat under-seasoned. That variation is worth keeping in mind.

The setting suits family meals, with private or secluded sections, ground seating and an interior reviewers describe as clean and thoughtfully designed. First-time Afghan-food diners have found the waiters useful for explaining unfamiliar dishes and suggesting what to order. Portions are often generous, including an Afghan platter for two described as more than enough, though some guests felt prices were high for the quantity.

Timing and logistics need a little planning. Service is reported to slow during busy hours, and parking can be difficult to find. Pickup has also produced a notable complaint: one customer waited 40 minutes in the car and received cold food.

If you are visiting for shawarma, check availability first, as one review said it was no longer offered. Overall, the restaurant has strong appeal for traditional Afghan flavours and family seating, with occasional inconsistency in food temperature, tenderness and seasoning.
